Somatic Interventions
When Words Aren’t Enough, Start with the Body
Somatic interventions are highly beneficial for treating trauma because they address the ways trauma is stored in the body, not just in the mind. Trauma often leaves a physiological imprint—such as chronic tension, dysregulated breathing, or a heightened stress response—that traditional talk therapy may not fully resolve.
Somatic approaches, like somatic tracking, sensorimotor psychotherapy, or breathwork, help individuals reconnect with their bodies, develop awareness of physical sensations, and safely release trapped survival energy. By gently guiding clients to tune into their bodily experiences and complete interrupted fight, flight, or freeze responses, these interventions support nervous system regulation and foster a sense of safety and embodiment.
This body-based healing can be especially powerful for trauma survivors who struggle to verbalize their experiences or feel disconnected from their physical selves.
